Mather Meadows

The 10-acre Mather Meadows was purchased from the McPherson family in 2003 through generous donations from many Town Residents, the Town of Darien, and the State of Connecticut.

Today, these magnificent open spaces are maintained as natural meadows as part of the disappearing grassland habitat in Connecticut.

Open meadows are used by certain migrating bird species on the Atlantic Fly-Way. They are also used by the Monarch butterfly as they stop to feed on the abundant nectar sources on their return migration to Mexico each fall.
