Lecture by Rick Darke on The Living Landscape

On January 14, 2015, the DLT co-sponsored guest speaker Rick Darke, award-winning horticulralist and landscape designer, at the Darien Library. He spoke on "the Living Landscape" and biodiversity in home and community gardens. The event co-sponsored by the Tree Conservancy of Darien, Friends of Sellecks Woods, the Darien Nature Center and the Darien Library.

In his talk, Mr. Darke explained the benefits of an ecologically diverse home garden. In Darke's most recent book The Living Landscape, he and Doug Tallamy explain the importance of native plants in one's own backyard. The Living Landscape emphasizes residential horticulture and its significance in our society today.

Darke is a published author, photographer and lecturer and spends his free time working towards a sustainable lifestyle for both himself and the wildlife around him.  In 1988, Darke received the Scientific Award from the American Horticultural Society.
